My reasoning is that some of the Contracts have sub-objectives like “Don’t kill anyone” which is there to prevent players from completing stealth areas by stealth killing all the guards, instead forcing them to “Ghost” through the mission by using tools to avoid or slip past guards.

I don't have Mirage, but from what I've seen in videos I think that if you kill the op guard that appears when you have lv3 notoriety, it removes your whole bar. It should be pretty easy with a smoke bomb+hidden blade stealth kill
