People on this sub love to say that Mike Barker leaving and the move to TBS totally changed the creative direction of the show. But Wegener essentially said that wasn’t the case, at all. AmDad was set to be cancelled after Season 9 ended.

That is not at all true. He is not part of the writers room. Barker is only credited with writing or co-writing 6 episodes total, the last of which was Lost in Space in season 8. He’s still credited as a producer because hes one of the show’s creators and still works with fox.
They never gave a specific reason for him leaving. Though Barker will still work with 20th Century Fox, it’s rumored his leave was due to recent “concerns that the show as not running smoothly,” Deadline Hollywood reported. I've always thought it was a contract thing.

It was announced on November 4, 2013 that Barker had departed American Dad! after 10 seasons with the program, and was replaced by Weitzman as the series' sole showrunner. Barker remains under an overall contract with 20th Century Fox Television .
