I think we can say that Shutter Island was a better written film, but I personally enjoyed Gothika more because I felt that the dramatic effects felt more clear, and I also loved the spiritual vibe to the movie, nothing against SI which is really another one of my favorite films.
Is Gothika really 'that' bad? I was in the mood for a suspense/thriller the other night and decided to watch Gothika on Netflix, which I probably haven't seen in about ten years. This is by no means a 'great' movie but I don't think it deserves a 14% rating (Rotten Tomatoes).
