In Basildon, Essex, in 2017, the council approved plans for the leisure aspect of the £26m East Square development, at the heart of a wider town centre regeneration programme.
Overview. Photos. Comments. View larger map →. The 12-screen UCI opened on 16th July 1998. It was taken over by Empire Cinemas and re-named in 2006. Seating capacities range from 538 in screen 12 (the largest), to 146 in screens 3 & 10 (the smallest) with a total capacity for 2,902.
The cinema was re-furbished in 1995 and the third screen was re-instated, this time with a film projection box and seating reduced to 80 in screen 3. The Robins Cinema closed on 2nd December 1999, unable to compete with the new UCI multiplex which had just opened in the town.
