Born Terva Gaston Hubbard, Bardette originally studied to be a mechanical engineer but entered an acting career on the East Coast stage. After moving to Hollywood in 1937, his stoney, deep-cut features brought him many roles as ruthless, sneaky, double-crossing characters.
After attaining his degree in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University, he partook in the drama club at Northwestern University while he furthered his education to attain a secondary degree as a master of science.
He initially aspired to become a mechanical engineer after graduating from Oregon State University in June 1925. However, by the late 1920's, he had changed his name from Terva Gaston Hubbard to Trevor Bardette and embarked on a brief, unremarkable acting career on the East Coast stage, before moving to Hollywood in 1937.
