Production of majolica ware started in 1865. From 1872 china production was started. By 1873 the two eldest sons, Frank Ralph Jones and George Henry Jones became partners in the business which was renamed George Jones & Sons. 'Crescent' was registered as a trademark for the new company.
Jones was born Richard Lewis Jones at Tre'r-ddôl in Ceredigion. [1] The son of a farmer, he himself farmed 85 acres (34 ha) at Fferm yr Hendre at Blaenannerch in Aberporth. In commenting upon his life, he remarked, "I farm for bread and butter; I write for some jam on it."

Richard Jones, or Dic as he was known throughout Wales, was born on Good Friday, 30 March 1934 at Pen-y-graig, a smallholding near Tre'r-ddôl in North Cardiganshire. His mother, Frances Louisa (1910-1986) was one of the daughters of the Isaac family who farmed there.

When the chaired poet, John Gwilym Jones was Archdruid (1993-96), he had the honour of crowning his brother, Aled Gwyn, and chairing his son, Tudur Dylan Jones, in the Bro Colwyn Eisteddfod, 1995. Furthermore, another brother, T. James Jones, had already won the Crown twice - in Fishguard 1986 and Newport 1988.
