This book examines the best practices of academic writing by exploring how the writing process actually works; with particular attention paid to the various elements of the college essay format. This was originally published as an introduction to Gurevich’s first OER publication, “Critical Thinking.”.
For many people, writing is a process that involves the following steps: 1 Discovering a thesis—often through prewriting. 2 Developing solid support for the thesis—often through more prewriting. 3 Organizing the thesis and supporting material and writing it out in a first draft.
During this part of the process you are explaining, supporting, and expanding on your ideas. At this point in the process, there is no need to pay particular attention to specific details of writing such as: Spelling. Grammar. Sentence structure.
