The analysis showed that broken rails or welds were the leading derailment cause on main, yard, and siding tracks. By contrast to accident causes on main tracks, bearing failures and broken wheels were not among the top accident causes on yard or siding tracks.

Dec 9, 2020 · This study explores the vehicle derailment mechanisms in train-to-train collision accidents. The numerical model of a train-track dynamics system is developed and validated. Vehicle behaviors under a 60 km/h impact indicate that the wheelset has the potential for climbing derailment.
In addition, new countermeasures had been suggested after the Fukuchiyama-Line derailment killed 107 people and injured 562 in 2005. We will explain this in view of the law of Japan and changes in risk. And, we report about changes in safety after taking these countermeasures.
