The suspense in the great hall scene made up for any shortcomings in the Winterfell plot line. I really thought Arya was going to fight 50 people at once, and then I got to see Littlefinger turn into a little bitch AND I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT. Littlefinger has left the game. The Wall has left the game.
Season 7 is only 7 episodes and season 8 is only 6 episodes. If we had gotten 10 full episodes for each of the last two seasons, that would’ve been almost an entire season left unaired. These episodes could have been filled with more details that allowed us to feel the culmination of the the final episode and believe it.
I feel Season 7 is the worst written season of Game of Thrones. I'm with you on that. I think S8 leaves a more bitter taste for people because it's the end. It'll be the lasting impression. And because of the more obvious stuff like Dany burning the city, White Walkers being killed off, Bran becoming King.
