Summary: Book III. Book III opens with a second invocation to his muse, this time addressed to “holy light” (III. 1). Milton asks that the heavenly light shine inside him and illuminate his mind with divine knowledge so that he can share this knowledge with his readers.
Milton has shown the parody of this scene in Hell, but now he portrays the peak and glory of Divine love – the Son sacrificing himself for humanity. This is a prophecy of Jesus’s coming to Earth, and the future when fallen man will return to innocence and glory.
