Byrne The De La Salle Brothers arrived in the city in 1870 and opened a successful primary school at Patrick Street in Waterford city. In 1887, the search began for a prominent site to locate a new teacher training college, and William Henry Byrne was commissioned.
Throughout the year’s majority of teachers who had a strong influence on students from north to the south of Ireland were trained in De La Salle College, Waterford (“History”, n.d). 1921, Ireland won independence from Britain but the education system did not change.
