David Hockney (born 1937) is one of the most popular and widely recognised artists of our time. After first coming to public attention in 1961, while still a student at the Royal College of Art, he went on to produce some of the best-known paintings of the 1960s.
David Hockney (1937) may live more than a century later than Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), however their vision of landscape is often similar. But what exactly does this nature mean to them? And how did Van Gogh’s landscapes inspire Hockney?
Salts Mill is situated opposite the Saltaire Railway Station with direct trains from Leeds. Alternatively, you can get off the train at Shipley and take the lovely walk along the canal to Saltaire. It takes 10 minutes and is well signposted. Free Admission.
