The movie describes the troubles in a small bakery in Bavaria that gets in trouble when a neighboring supermarket tries to force the bakery out of the market. The bakery bakes good bread without any chemistry.

A minor key, low-budget delight with an appropriate ‘small is beautiful’ theme: an elaborately naturalistic account of a young baker’s progress through apprenticeship and adolescence.
Master baker Baum (Günter Lamprecht) is worried. A supermarket has opened near his bakery and is ruining his business with cheap, industrially produced bread rolls. Not even running amok in the supermarket can hinder its success. It could be a story from today, but the film was made in the 1970s.
