Playwright Alexis Michalik's big screen adaptation and directorial debut of his Shakespeare In Love inspired stage hit Edmond (still playing at Théâtre du Palais Royal after 2 years with advance bookings up to at least another year!) on the genesis of Cyrano de Bergerac.
Roxanne fails to realize that Cyrano is desperately in love with her. She tells Cyrano she has fallen for Christian and asks him to arrange a meeting. Though heartbroken, Cyrano meets Christian and discovers he is inarticulate and incapable of expressing his feelings.
Cyrano, My Love depicts the process of creating the iconic play a la Shakespeare in Love, that is, by taking the actual play’s history and jumbling it up with the plot of Cyrano, with art reinventing life and vice versa.
