  6. Hi GUISE..(tailor) was hanged just before the battle of worcester 1651, as a traitor.....he informed Cromwell about the movements of CharlesII and as such, paid the price!!...his widow was granted by Cromwell £100 per year afterwards.... cheers Sean Brown

Many thanks for the information - at least there were some Philpott's in Gloucestershire in those days - the chappie I am chasing was unfortunately married in 1878 which gives no clues on a marriage certificate as it was in 1880 that it became law to include the name of the parents, their occupation (parents and the couple themselves) and how long they had been in New Zealand.
