  1. May 24, 2021 · 4-stroke engine 'hunting'. My son has a 4-stroke self propelled ‘Challenge’ mower;...the engine always starts first time but it ‘hunts’ continuously (and annoyingly) when in use. I've checked the usual suspects, ...air filter...spark plug/cabling...fuel etc, but nothing obvious.

  2. Briggs & Stratton vertical crankshaft engines are a type of engine commonly used in garden machinery such as lawn mowers, snow blowers, and tillers. As the name suggests, the engine's crankshaft is oriented vertically, meaning it runs up and down rather than horizontally.

    • **If It Is Still Hunting - Carb Jets:**

This is when the engine revs up and drops back down rapidly on a cycle. It is usually caused by a lean fuel mixture - ie.) not enough fuel in the fuel-air ratio. This is controlled by your carburettor and governor.

Please make sure that you are using unleaded fuel that is no older than 30 days.
If the fuel you are using is older than 30 days, please remove and replace the old fuel.
First, please remove the air filter from the lawnmower.
To remove the air filter, unclip the filter cover on the side of your engine.
Some models may use a securing screw which can be removed by hand or using a screwdriver.
You may then remove the existing fuel by unscrewing the fuel cap, tipping the lawnmower onto its side and emptying the fuel into a container.
Please identify whether you have a sponge or paper air filter.
To access the air filter, please unclip the filter cover on the side of the engine.
Some models may use a securing screw which can be removed by hand or using a screwdriver.
A clean sponge air filter would be either grey or yellow.
If you have a sponge air filter which is dirty, you may clean the air filter using warm soapy water.
Please ensure you leave the filter to fully air dry before reinstalling.
A clean cartridge air filter would be white in colour.
If you have a paper air filter, it is not possible to clean the air filter.
If the air filter is dirty or damaged then you will need to purchase another filter.
It is most likely that thejets are blocked inside your carburettor(the part which regulates the fuel into the combustion chamber).
You can either try cleaning it yourself (purchase a 'carburettor cleaning kit'), or taking it to a local garden machinery centre for a service.
  4. May 31, 2017 · With the assistance of a mud motor, I could access better duck hunting, gator hunting, fishing, spelunking & crawfishing… the list goes on and on (okay, maybe not spelunking).

  5. This article details a method I used to fix a large hole in the crankcase of a 8hp Briggs & Stratton Vertical Engine. First a little background: When we first bought our property we quickly realised we would need either a tractor or a ride on lawn mower. Whilst I would have loved a tractor, cost meant we went for a ride on lawn mower.

  6. Apr 8, 2017 · #1. Hi all I've got a Challenge Xtreme lawnmower with a Chinese SV150 engine. It starts well but hunts/surges really noticibly. I have stripped the carburetor down and cleaned it thoroughly with carb cleaner but no difference. I have tried new fuel which didn't change anything either.
