That's true, but it plays in the film like Fletcher's method has been proven to be correct, Andrew's hopes being crushed would have made for a better and more realistic ending. The way it is scans as if Full Metal Jacket followed its boot camp scene with Cowboy's brigade becoming some kind of super-soldiers.
