Con Man is a comedy Web Video Series created, directed, and written by Alan Tudyk. A Vimeo exclusive, which probably didn't help it. Wray Nerely (Alan Tudyk), is a struggling actor whose last big role was as pilot Cash Wayne on the sci-fi show Spectrum before it was cancelled in the middle of its first season.
The second season premiered on December 8, 2016 on Comic-Con HQ, Comic-Con's subscription streaming video service and consisted of 12 episodes. In 2017, the series was acquired by Syfy and had its television debut on September 9, 2017, where the episodes were combined to produce half-hour installments for airing.
The Con Man (also known as a grifter, swindler, matchstick man, scam artist or con artist) attempts to gain the confidence of naïve people and part them from their money, or at least play them for a fool long enough to get what they want — that is, to pull off a confidence trick.
The Distinguished Gentleman opens with a con man who operates by getting his mark into a sex scandal, then showing up and arresting the "blackmailers", who are part of the con. The mark is so anxious to avoid publicity that he bribes the "FBI agent" to keep it quiet.
