To be eligible to apply for admission, GS requires a score of 100 on the internet-based TOEFL (or 600 or better on the paper version), a score of 7.0 on the IELTS, or a score of 120 on Duolingo. Applicants should arrange to have recent test scores sent to the GS Office of Admissions directly from the testing service.

Columbia University School of General Studies offers the following majors and other programs of study. GS students must complete a major to receive a bachelor’s degree. Most GS students graduate with one major. Occasionally, students may opt to pursue two majors.

To qualify for a bachelor's degree, students are required to complete 124 points with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. The 124 points are distributed among three general categories: core requirements, major requirements, and electives.
