It’s an awesome movie I’ve happily rewatched a dozen times - great script, excellent performances, fantastic soundtrack. But damn, so I wish Mann had shot with actual film cameras then the crappy early 00’s digital cameras he used. The main reason I love the jazz scene so much is that he used film and BOY can you tell.
The writing, the direction, the acting, and the practical action effects are all outstanding. The supporting cast, which includes Jada Pinkett Smith, Mark Ruffalo, and Peter Berg, give a living texture to the city, and Javier Bardem practically steals the film in his brief appearance. Collateral is a gripping and brilliant thriller.

Collateral did not disappoint. The film feels very immediate, facilitating the anarchy that unravels during the runtime given that the movie takes place over a single night
