Sep 7, 2008 · I've never heard this, and there's no hint of it in Urban Dictionary. I think you're quite safe using "chin up"/"keep your chin up" to mean "try to stay brave and confident even in your difficult circumstances". It does sound a little old-fashioned, I guess.
