   In the early 20th century, the Federated Women’s Clubs of Fort Worth proposed turning the last remaining empty lot (the northwest corner of Houston and Belknap) into a park memorializing the fort. County commissioners put the kibosh on that idea when they secured title to the property for a new jail (the present Criminal Courts building), completed in 1918.
