Charlotte Hall Military Academy, located at Charlotte Hall, Maryland, was established as Charlotte Hall School in 1774 by Queen Charlotte to provide for the liberal and pious education of youth to better fit them for the discharge of their duties for the British Empire.

At first a military academy, Charlotte Hall was one of the early educational institutions in the United States. Merged from the free schools of St. Mary's, Charles and Prince George's counties in 1774, the all-boys military school operated nearly 200 years.
Mar 31, 2007 · Also known as the Charlotte Hall Military Academy, the school closed in 1976, long after this marker was erected. It is now the Charlotte Hall Veterans’ Home. The Veterans’ Home provides assisted living and long-term care for Maryland’s veterans.
