Born: 1871, Died: 1928. Born in Riverton, NJ, Charles Wellford Leavitt, Jr., received his early education at the Gunnery in Washington, CT, and at Cheltenham Academy in Cheltenham, PA. He began his career as an engineer in 1891, and by 1893 had secured a position with the New York Suburban Land Company.
