Armstrong’s historic recordings, the “Hot Fives” and “Hot Sevens,” are assessed, as well as his work with influential pianist Earl Hines.

  3. Jazz Origins. The history of jazz music is deeply linked to and embedded with the history of New Orleans. As ragtime and the blues began to circulate, New Orleans incubated music that would come to be called jazz, and the unique social construction of the city provided a cadre of musicians as well as an audience to support and sustain a particular form of musical expression.

  5. Charles Lloyd (born March 15, 1938) [1] is an American jazz musician. He primarily plays tenor saxophone and flute and occasionally other reed instruments, including alto saxophone and the Hungarian tárogató. Lloyd's primary band since 2007 has been a quartet including pianist Jason Moran, acoustic bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Eric Harland.
