The girl is The Girl, Hannah Boyle. The man on the horse is Ned, who is supposed to be a hardscrabble farmer type. In reality, he looks like one of the bridge-and-tunnel guys wandering 27th street in their velvet short sleeve mock turtlenecks every Saturday.
Oct 6, 2020 · Catherine Cookson’s The Girl. This was a difficult book for me to read, given the central character is presented as the illegitimate offspring of a middle class, relatively well-off family man. This is my second foray into Catherine Cookson as I read my way through a compendium of her novels.
The Glass Virgin is about a young girl, raised as gentility, who finds out she’s actually the daughter of a whore and therefore socially untenable. Distraught, she leaves the house with estate groom (and total hottie) Manuel in tow.
Illegitimate Hannah Boyle is simply called “The Girl” by her jealous stepmother, who forces her into a disastrous marriage. But Hannah is willing to fight to regain her freedom and the man she truly loves. TV adaptation of the novel by Catherine Cookson. 148m/C VHS, DVD .
