CARPATI captures the unique melodies and cadences created by communities of outsiders in this region. In 1931, when Godinger was just a boy, the Carpathian area was part of Czechoslovakia and the Jews - mostly poor farmers - numbered a quarter million.
Zev Godinger hasn't seen his homeland since being deported to Auschwitz, in 1944. 50 years later, he is ready to take the pilgrimage back home. He brings with him the Roma music he has learned since being away and a Torah from the US as a gift for his boyhood synagogue.
