Jul 28, 2024 · 1.17.1 Pre-release 1 (known as 1.17.1-pre1 in the launcher) is the first pre-release for Java Edition 1.17.1, released on June 18, 2021,[1] which tweaks some game mechanics and fixes bugs.
Minecraft now uses a more recent version of Java. If you are using a default setup, the Launcher will download and install the correct version. If you are using a custom Java setup, or a third-party launcher, you will need to ensure that your Java installation is version 16 or above.
Pre-releases are available for Minecraft: Java Edition. To install the pre-release, open up the Minecraft Launcher and enable snapshots in the "Installations" tab. Pre-releases can corrupt your world, so please make a backup and/or run them in a different folder from your main worlds.
