A climb of 271 spiral stone steps awaits those who choose to ascend the tower. The carillon tour (see our home page for current times) offers the visitor the chance to see some of the details of how the Chapel was built, as well as to see and hear the bells played up close.
The carillon and the tower. They are played live every day during the academic quarters, those 72 bells, 100 tons of bronze! And you can visit them, either by climbing the 271 steps of the tower or by experiencing the audio and video feed (in the Chapel) from the playing cabin high up in the tower.

A reaction to the Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1, this carillon prelude is a popular piece among carillon students. Commissioned by Yale University in 2016 for the 50th anniversary of their carillon, the full Kaleidoscopesuite is dedicated to my sister, Meg. Look out for it any day of the week!

I arranged this on the carillon for my partner, Vera, as a Christmas present back in 2010 when we were college students. We had just started dating at the time. Now we’re married and have a 1-year-old daughter!
Disney music is my favorite genre to play on the instrument. (Tip: request a Disney song and you are twice as likely to hear it played). “Colors of the Wind” in particular, when the melody goes into the super low bass bells.
