I would suggest you read them in chronological order as much as possible at least for the early books. Sharpe’s Rifles, Sharpe’s Havoc, Sharpe’s Eagle and Sharpe's Gold at least just because it helps to set up where Sharpe came from and some of the key characters' relationships.
