However, Doom1/2 game files (wads) were never released for free. You'll need to acquire them somewhere. Alternatively, there are some wads that people created from scratch -- new levels using new textures/sounds/music -- e.g. FreeDoom. Maybe another way to view it is how game consoles exist.

Doom II was much harder than Doom. I played Doom regularly for a couple years playing through each campaign many, many times before I finally got my hands on a bootleg Doom II back in the day. I got pretty good at the original but it took me some time to get used to the increased difficulty.
I'd say it's worth the price for the campaign and arcade alone, especially if you plan on playing single player campaign on higher difficulties as you complete the previous difficulty and try to 100% each stage.

Feb 19, 2021 · You could use zandronum and both you and your friend could connect to a server, you can use IDE or Doomseeker to find them. If you live in the same house or so, you could use zdoom for peer-to-peer or use the fake splitscreen from lzdoom.
