May 6, 2013 · We use high-resolution cosmological hydrodynamic simulations to study the angular momentum acquisition of gaseous halos around Milky-Way-sized galaxies. We find that cold mode accreted gas enters a galaxy halo with ∼70% more specific angular momentum than dark matter averaged over cosmic time (though with a very large dispersion).

Obtaining a precise measurement of in halos is difficult because the signal-to-noise is relatively small owing to the fact that the local coherent velocity of the halo contributing to the angular momentum is small compared the velocity dispersion.
The near universality of DM halo density profiles provided by N-body simulations proved to be robust against changes in total mass density, power spectrum, and some forms of initial velocity dispersion. Here we study the effects of coherently spinning up an isolated DM-only progenitor on halo structure.

Multiple types of observations provide evidence for a robust connection between galaxy mass and host halo mass; these include clustering, weak lensing, X-ray mass measurements, and satellite kinematics (see Wechsler & Tinker 2018, for a review).
Oct 2, 2023 · Without relying on a spherical or ellipsoidal collapse model, we analytically derive the halo mass function and cuspy halo density (inner slope of −4/3) based on the mass and energy cascade...

At high redshift, freshly accreted gas rapidly streams into the central region of the halo, directly depositing this large amount of angular momentum within a sphere of radius r = 0.1Rvir.

kinematics of stars in the outer Galactic halo can be used as an important constraint on viable galaxy formation scenarios. 1. Introduction Although the stellar halo accounts for at most a few percent of the luminous mass of the Galaxy, it plays a crucial role in studies of the Galaxy’s formation, evolution, and present-day structure.
