The essential groundwork of a successful review involves developing a clear research question, along with inclusion and exclusion criteria. As will be described in more detail throughout this JGME Literature Review Series, the research question must align with the review type.
A literature review will usually do some or all of the following: Introduce the reader to a specific area of interest. Organise relevant sources thematically, starting with the more general, broader themes and narrowing towards the most specific themes. Introduce key theories relevant to the area of study.
