Nov 10, 2023 · Generally, it’s a scan taken of the entire body with either an MRI or a CT machine. Because it covers the whole body, it might not look at any given part of the body as closely as an MRI or CT scan would when it’s used to examine a particular organ or area of the body for a specific reason.
In some cancers, such as cervix or bladder cancer, MRI is better than CT at showing how deeply the tumour has grown into body tissues. It can be particularly useful for showing whether the tissue left behind after treatment is cancer or not.
