Jun 9, 2023 · Once a mature determinate plant has produced its main “bumper crop”, the plant will drastically slow down in production or stop growing entirely. Bush tomatoes and bush green beans are prime examples of determinate plants. Dragon tongue bush beans are determinate – small, bushy, and short-lived.

- Radishes. What’s great about radishes is they make do with whatever soil you have to work with, and they grow incredibly fast—literally in three to four weeks.
- Lettuce. All garden greens (including spinach and arugula) grow very easily—and very quickly—but lettuce is probably the easiest. A cool-weather crop, just plant your seeds in the spring and fall, water them regularly, and in about 4 weeks you’ll have gorgeous baby lettuces popping up, ready to eat.
- Green beans. Green beans are not only delicious, but they store well. They can be frozen or pickled, so if your bumper crop of green beans is a little too bumper (which can certainly happen, as they’re easy to grow) you don’t have to mulch them.
- Onions. Onions are incredibly useful in the kitchen, and incredibly easy to grow. You can either buy dormant bulbs, which will mature faster, or start with seeds.
- Honeycrisp’ Apple. We are starting off our list with popular apple trees called ‘Honeycrisp’. These varieties are known for their sweet, crisp, juicy fruits, and compact size that can be kept small with pruning.
- Morris’ Plum. ‘Morris’ plum trees produce medium-sized, sweet, and juicy plums. The fruit is typically dark purple or red when ripe, and the tree itself produces attractive white blossoms in spring.
- American Persimmon. American persimmons produce small, sweet, and flavorful fruits with a unique flavor. The tree features dark green foliage and attractive orange fruit when ripe.
- Nectarine. I bet everyone is familiar with nectarines, but did you know that they are super easy to grow? That’s right, there are nectarine trees that are self-pollinating so you don’t have to worry about the pollinator population in your area.
