The plot focuses on Franklin Shepard, who, in 1976, is a one-time composer of Broadway musicals who has become a highly successful but cynical and jaded film producer who has lost his friends, Charley Kringas (also long-time collaborator) and Mary Flynn.

The Musical adaptation of the 1988 Tim Burton film Beetlejuice, which started its run in Washington D.C. in 2018 and officially opened on Broadway on April 25, 2019. The book was written by Scott Brown and Anthony King, and the songs provided by Australian comedian Eddie Perfect.
