3. Distant Voices, Still Lives. 1988 1h 24m PG-13. 7.4 (5.3K) Rate. 86 Metascore. The lives of an English working-class family are told out of order in a free-associative manner. The first part, "Distant Voices", focuses on the father's role in the family. The second part, "Still Lives", focuses on his children.
- His House. The best types of horror films are more than just a trickbox of scares. Some are character studies, others explore deeper themes or grapple complex social issues, and a few manage to move you in more ways than just a raising of the pulse.
- Ammonite. On a windswept cliff in 19th century England, two unfulfilled women chance to meet.
