Sep 11, 2023 · Recovery scams, also known as 'recovery room' scams or recovery fraud, are a form of advance fee fraud, when a scammer asks you to make an upfront payment for a 'service' before disappearing with your money. Recent victims of bank transfer scams and investment scams are commonly targeted.

Of the 85 Recovery Colleges approached 10 were excluded from the study as 3 had closed due to lack of funding and seven were opening in 2017 and not yet sufficiently established to give accurate replies to questions. Of the 75 Colleges eligible for the study, 39 (52%) replied.
