Briarcliff Manor (/ ˈbraɪ.ərklɪf /) is a suburban village in Westchester County, New York, 30 miles (50 km) north of New York City. It is on 5.9 square miles (15 km 2) of land on the east bank of the Hudson River, geographically shared by the towns of Mount Pleasant and Ossining.
Mr. Speyer established this organization with other prominent New Yorkers, such as J. P. Morgan, Jacob Schiff, and Seth Low, as “a pawn shop on humanitarian principles.” He also helped found the University Settlement Society, the first settlement house of its type in America.
