Located in the iconic Stutz building off of 10th Street, the newly opened Stutz Car Museum showcases nine classic cars on loan from Turner Woodard’s personal collection, most designed and manufactured in the Stutz factory building a century ago.
The Stutz Motor Car Company was an American automobile manufacturer based in Indianapolis, Indiana that produced high-end sports and luxury cars. The company was founded in 1911 as the Ideal Motor Car Company before merging with the Stutz Auto Parts Company in 1913.
The famed Blitzen Benz (aka "Lightning Benz") was driven to numerous land speed track records by Barney Oldfield (1910) and Bob Burman (1911). Both drivers achieved the fastest mile speeds that anyone had ever recorded up to the date of their runs.
In 1911, Harry C. Stutz who had previously worked as an engineer at Marion, envisioned a sporty and powerful car priced under $2,000. He built this car using components sourced from established manufacturers in just 5 weeks and immediately campaigned it at the inaugural Indianapolis 500.

Jan 14, 2013 · The first Stutz was built in just five weeks and was immediately taken to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the inaugural running of the 500 Mile Race. Gil Anderson drove the car to an eleventh place finish. Thus, the advertising slogan: “Stutz – The Car That Made Good In A Day.”
Dec 15, 2021 · The Stutz complex was built in 1911-1912 by Harry Stutz, who founded the motorcar company. The facility produced cars until 1935, when the Great Depression forced the manufacturer to close. Fun fact: The Stutz Bearcat, built by Harry in just 10 days, finished 11th in the first-ever Indianapolis 500.
