  2. Nov 8, 2023 · Historical utility data for cascading failure and large blackouts is foundational for understanding and quantifying blackouts. This chapter surveys some of the main ideas in obtaining and exploiting the patterns in this data, beyond the useful lessons that can be...

  3. In this paper, publicly available data have been compiled into a dataset of large-scale blackouts that happened from 1965 to 2015. A formula has been devised to filter the largest blackouts by equally weighting the number of people affected and the total restoration.

  4. Jun 28, 2007 · Instead of looking at the details of particular blackouts, we study the statistics and dynamics of series of blackouts with approximate global models. Blackout data from several countries suggest that the frequency of large blackouts is governed by a power law.

  5. Jun 3, 2022 · First, we conceptualize blackout as a special case of SC risks which is distinctively characterized by a simultaneous shutdown of several SC processes, disruption propagations (i.e., the ripple effect), and a danger of viability losses for entire ecosystems.

  6. Nov 8, 2023 · Cascading failures are considered the most severe threats to power systems. If not effectively prevented or mitigated, they may lead to catastrophic power blackouts and substantial losses. This chapter first draws insights from historical cascading and blackout...
