The Toyota 2.7-liter engine called as the 2TR-FE appeared in 2003. It is a four-cylinder gasoline engine used mostly in Toyota's SUVs and RWD/4WD pickups. This 2.7l engine of the TR family successfully replaced the old 3RZ-FE engine. The engine was built around cast iron cylinder block borrowed from the 3RZ engine.
Aug 2, 2021 · The 2TR-FE 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine is found only in the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota 4Runner in the U.S. It continues to be produced as of 2021. Like the 3RZ, the 2TR-FE uses standard DOHC construction with a cast-iron engine block and an aluminum cylinder head.
Instead of a cast iron block used in Toyota's 7A-FE, the 1ZZ engine has a die-cast aluminum cylinder block with thin (2.0 mm thick), chill-fitted cast iron cylinder liners. The engine block is equipped with a forged crankshaft with five journals and eight balance weights, lightweight connecting rods, and aluminum pistons with full floating-type piston pins.
