   Is Billy Bird a good movie?

   • Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Audience Member Eastwood is a good director and he captures Billy Bird to a tee. He inserts enough of a jazzy vibe reminiscent of the era. Forrest Whitaker is excellent too. Yet the film goes on so long and there’s a drab atmosphere that drains all joy from the viewing experience.

   • For years, Arnold has been a Cannes darling, and a critics’ darling too. So I expect to be out of the loop when I say that “Bird,” which premiered at Cannes today, doesn’t fully cut it as a movie. It certainly has Arnold’s empathy and integrity, as well as her raw-boned craftsmanship.
