Bellshill (pronounced "Bells hill") is a town in North Lanarkshire in Scotland, ten miles (sixteen kilometres) southeast of Glasgow city centre and 37 mi (60 km) west of Edinburgh. Bellshill was never a place of beauty, but it is home to many people – and, without doubt, their houses are better, more comfortable and commodious than those of 1935; and their jobs are much safer than mining ever had been. Bellshill provides schools, shops and churches – it remains a vibrant community.
Situated between Coatbridge and Motherwell, 9 miles (14.5 km) southeast of Glasgow, the town of Bellshill lies to the north of the South Calder Water. It includes the neighbourhoods of Orbiston, Hattonrig, Milnwood, Mossend and Shirrel.
BELLSHILL, a village, in the parish of Bothwell, Middle ward of the county of Lanark, 1½ mile (E.) from Bothwell; containing 1013 inhabitants. It lies on the great road from Edinburgh to Glasgow, and the hill from which it is named attains an elevation of 372 feet above the sea.
