Teenage Fanclub. Teenage Fanclub were formed in Bellshill with the band emerging from Glasgow's C86 scene in 1989.
The scene - known as the Bellshill Sound or the Bellshill Beat - was celebrated by influential DJ John Peel in the Channel 4 television series Sounds Of The Suburbs. Bellshill continues to produce well respected and influential independent pop music, with members of Mogwai and De Rosa hailing from the town.
Bellshill was also famous for music particularly in the mid 1980's Singer Sheena Easton was born in the town of Bellshill, the youngest of six children of steel mill labourer Alex Orr and his wife Annie.
On his death, his wife inherited the property and, as she acquired much of the Orbiston estate, she renamed the house Orbiston. Mrs Cecilia Douglas moved in exalted circles: at one time or another she entertained Sir Waiter Scott, the Duke of Wellington, and Sir John Moore of Corunna fame.
