Apr 26, 2012 · The family had moved from Overtoun sometime after 1884. Her mother's (Janet Robertson previously Brown) second husband was Charles Kenmuir. Janet died in 1907 and Charles in 1914. the informant was his niece Elizabeth Laird.
On his death, his wife inherited the property and, as she acquired much of the Orbiston estate, she renamed the house Orbiston. Mrs Cecilia Douglas moved in exalted circles: at one time or another she entertained Sir Waiter Scott, the Duke of Wellington, and Sir John Moore of Corunna fame.

The first mention of the town dates back to 1596 when it appeared on a handwritten map by Timothy Pont with it having a rich history of being an industrial town.
