Dörte Helm, a young art student in Weimar, follows Walter Gropius’ call and joins the newly-founded Bauhaus school. A love story grows between Gropius and Dörte, adding fuel to the fire of the ensuing scandal threatening the very existence of the Bauhaus; the school of art that would go on to shape the 20th century like no other….
The exmatriculated student Dörte Helm moves to the rural commune of her ex-boyfriend Auerbach, where she takes over the creative work of the children in addition to the agricultural work.
The style and design survived the school and influenced the architecture and art of the next century. The series 'Bauhaus - A New Era' presents a view of the beginnings of the movement, is well made and beautifully acted and, even if it does not have the rigor of a documentary, it is worth watching.
