The Exchange Hotel, completed in 1841 in Richmond, Virginia was a Gothic revival four-story building designed by Isaiah Rogers. It was very popular before the Civil War . The Ballard House opened up across the street in 1855.

Information about the Ballard House Hotel in Richmond, VA during the Civil War. The Ballard House was located on the northeast side of the corner of 14th and Franklin streets and was connected to the Exchange Hotel by a footbridge which ran across Franklin street.

A second-story bridge connects the 1841 Exchange Hotel (at right) on Franklin Street in Richmond to the newer Ballard House, which was constructed in 1855-1856. John P. Ballard owned both hotels. The Ballard and the Exchange survived the fires set by the evacuating Confederate army in April 1865, but both hotels closed by 1896.
