The Exchange Hotel, completed in 1841 in Richmond, Virginia was a Gothic revival four-story building designed by Isaiah Rogers. It was very popular before the Civil War. The Ballard House opened up across the street in 1855.

The Exchange Hotel was built in 1841 by John P. Ballard (1816?-1878). The architect was Isaiah Rogers of Boston and New York City, who designed the building in the Classic style. A glass-plate photograph shows the Ballard House Hotel at Fourteenth and Franklin streets in Richmond. The four-story hotel built in 1855–1856 was distinctive for the second-story bridge that connected it to the Exchange Hotel across the street. Both hotels were owned by John P. Ballard.
