  4. I don't hike as much in winter due to short days and bad weather, and I definitely don't go backpacking. I often turn to YouTube to watch backpacking and hiking videos while I wait for spring. Below are some of my favorite channels. What are yours?

    • Athena Mellor. Athena is a writer, photographer and earth-lover. She is passionate about adventures in the wild and protecting the earth. Her videos are about gear reviews, hiking with her dog and even mountain biking.
    • Ronny Dahl. Ronny’s channel is all about 4x4ing, off-roading, overlanders, touring, adventures and camping. He uploads new videos every Sunday night from his adventures in western Australia.
    • Dan Becker. Dan creates videos reviewing hiking and backpacking gear he tried on his adventures. You can expect anything from shoes and tenes to sleep pads.
    • Paul (GearTest_Outdoors) Paul is a backpacker, a video producer, and an engineer. In 2014, after ranting about the terrible quality of backpacking videos on YouTube, he decided to start his own YouTube channel for that exact purpose.
  5. I am looking for new backpacking youtube channels, smaller ones. No "taking-head" living room backyard gear reviewers or Top 5 Things... channels. I am looking for trip videos, thoughtfully done, walk-alongs rather than walk-and-talks to help me feel as if I was part of the trip.

  6. Kurt Papke - Not sure if he's UL, but his hikes and the info he provides on them are incredible if you're ever looking to hike in the southwest. Bryce Newbold - He's not on any kind of upload schedule, but creates good, well edited videos that I like watching.
